Using Sparkfield

Sparkfield is operated by The Laithaus, LLC. By creating an account or using Sparkfield, you agree to these terms with The Laithaus, LLC. An educator acting for a school must have authority for that use and follow school policies and applicable law. Any signed agreement with a school governs where it conflicts with these general terms.

Accounts and family access

Teachers and administrators use educator accounts. Parents and caregivers can create their own accounts, connect to authorized students, message their teachers, read class updates, and view available student information. Student accounts are used through school-managed enrollment and learning tools.

Only connect to a child whose information you are authorized to access. A student-specific invitation authorizes access to that student; a class connection request requires teacher approval. Keep passwords, student login cards, and invitation codes private. Tell the teacher or Sparkfield if access is incorrect or an invitation is shared by mistake.

School and teacher responsibilities

Educators must establish appropriate school authorization and any required parental consent, provide accurate enrollment information, supervise student use, and review family requests before approving them. Remove access when a person should no longer be connected to the class or student. Accepting these terms does not replace obligations under privacy law or a school agreement.

Communication and acceptable use

Use messages and class posts respectfully and only share information you are authorized to share. Do not harass others, upload unlawful or inappropriate content, impersonate another person, misuse invitations, or attempt to access someone else’s account or records.

Sparkfield messaging is not an emergency service. Teachers may not read messages immediately, and notifications or delivery can be delayed. Contact the school through its usual urgent-contact process for time-sensitive issues.

Do not scrape or copy the service without authorization, interfere with its operation, or misuse its software or content. These restrictions do not limit rights that applicable law protects.

Your content and Sparkfield’s content

You retain your rights in content you submit, including teaching materials and student work. You authorize Sparkfield to store, process, and share it with the intended users and service providers as needed to operate the service and as described in Privacy. This does not transfer ownership of your content.

Sparkfield’s software, branding, design, and licensed educational content remain owned by Sparkfield or their licensors.

AI-assisted features

AI-generated activities, translations, summaries, and grading suggestions can be inaccurate. Educators must review them before using them for educational decisions. Avoid including unnecessary sensitive information in prompts or uploads. See Privacy for how these inputs are processed.

Plans and payments

If you choose a paid website plan, its price, billing interval, and available features are shown when you subscribe. Website payments are handled through Stripe. Cancellation normally takes effect at the end of the current billing period; partial-period refunds are not provided except where required by law or an applicable agreement. A parent account or family invitation does not by itself authorize a paid subscription.

Account closure and service access

Use Delete account in the app’s Account screen to initiate account deletion. Parents confirm removal with an email code; educator requests require review of class ownership and school-managed records. Contact michael@thelaithaus.com for assistance or other data requests. Class archiving and signing out are not account deletion. School-managed records may need separate handling under school instructions or legal obligations.

We may restrict access to address misuse, security issues, or legal requirements. Beta features can change and may not be available in every environment.

Availability and liability

Sparkfield is provided “as is,” subject to rights that cannot be excluded by law. We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free service. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Sparkfield’s liability for a claim arising from use of the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months before the claim.

Governing law

These terms are governed by New York law, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Disputes are subject to state and federal courts in New York County, New York, except where applicable law or a signed agreement requires otherwise.
